Casual attendance can be provided for affiliated IKGA Goju kai member clubs - where current / training students are visiting.
School Students
Fees are charged per term based on 2 classes per week Membership and Insurance is included in the Quarterly charge Training sessions are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00pm-6:00pm
Adults
Fees are charged per Quarter based on 2 classes per week Membership and Insurance is included in the Quarterly charge Training sessions are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-7:30pm
Benefits
Fitness
A great way to get and stay fit. An all over body workout incorporating cardio, strength and core drills. All sessions commence with a warm up (usually 20 mins) and then students work basics, kata or kumite in a interval training style technique.
Friendship
Friendly dojo environment were people of all ages can train together, encourage each other and grow. A great team environment. General classes are open to all ages/genders, giving the opportunity for younger students to find and develop their own voice amongst peers of all ages.
Resilence
Learning a martial arts provides opportunity to reflect on your own actions, movement and behaviours. Through this reflection the foundations of resilence is formed. Over time, working with others - receiving and giving feedback - you further develop resilence.
Tournaments
For those with a competitive spirit - there is plenty of opportunity to pit your skills against others both in kumite (fighting), kata (form). Competitions are held regularly across clubs at a local, state, national and international level - for all age groups.
Karate club rules
BACKGROUND
- The following rules are intended only for the internal regulation of the Qld Yamaguchi Goju Karate (IKGA) Club (“Club”).
- The Club is an unincorporated voluntary association established on 31 July 2012 to promote safe and enjoyable learning and practice of karate in Queensland.
- The Club’s karate style is that of the IKGA (International Karatedo Gojukai Association) with which the Club is affiliated, and the Club also takes notice of the guidelines of the Australian Karate Federation (AKF).
- The Club was founded by Richard Nicklen, Julie Russell, and Tom Curtis. They have constituted the Club’s membership. They have led the Club’s activities for their own learning and participation in karate and for others as students of and participants in karate.
- The Club’s founding members resolved to adopt these rules, to assist and promote the future running of the Club’s activities in karate.
- The Club’s founding members have until now maintained broadform liability insurance to cover the Club’s activities and these rules provide for this to continue.
- There is also a Waiver and Indemnity form as part of the membership application process which is intended to have binding legal effect. RULES
- Voting member - must be aged 18 or above, hold a 1st dan black belt awarded through the IKGA (or alternatively recognised by the IKGA), and ordinarily live in Queensland
- Non-voting member - must be aged 18 or above, have any grade below black belt, and ordinarily live in Queensland.
- Non-voting youth member – must be aged between 6 and 17, and ordinarily live in Queensland.
- Non-voting associate member – anyone outside the above categories. Visitors may participate casually and are non-voting.
- The Chief Executive has general responsibility for the Club’s operations and the appointment of instructors.
- The Secretary / Treasurer has responsibility for the clubs records and financial affairs and is authorised to pay any person or body for expenses properly incurred for or on behalf of the club’s operations.
- The Club officers are to report to the Committee annually.
- The Committee is to provide a brief written report to voting members once a year.
- All meetings of the Club are to be minuted by the Secretary / Treasurer and all records are to be kept by the Secretary / Treasurer for seven years. 9. Anyone wishing to become a Club member or Club visitor will have to apply by filling in a form that is submitted to a Club Officer. Either of the Club Officers may in their discretion provisionally accept or refuse any application. The Club Committee will decide to finally accept or refuse any application (and in so doing may override any decision by the Club Officers).
- confirming and varying or ending the suspension, along with issuing a caution or placing on probation
- confirming the suspension and terminating membership or visits, or
- excusing the person and revoking the suspension.
- take out and keep current suitable broadform liability insurance through the Australian Karate Federation (AKF) that covers all members and visitors who engage in Club activities and protects club members and visitors from liability (note this is subject to the waiver and indemnity from members and visitors that appears separately in this document and which is intended to have legal effect);
- maintain a Club chief instructor holding a suitable AKF training accreditation
- maintain a Club instructor with a blue card who will ensure the Club’s compliance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (Qld) (the Blue Card System) concerning any karate activities with children
- maintain a First Aid kit and member qualified to render first aid in connection with Club activities.
