All You Need Is YOU!
About Our Club
Yamaguchi Goju Kai Karate QLD has been operating for over 20 years in Brisbane. We are affiliated with the IKGA and have direct links back to Japan. Our dojo is a small but friendly training facility (using the local church hall). We have both hard floors as well as mats for training drills. The club participates in inter-club, state and national competitions, for those interested. Students will work both individually and in small groups as they learn and master co-ordination drills, kata, pre-arranged and [eventually] kumite.
Goju Kai literally is translated to "Hard and Soft School". We combine internal and external elements into an effective and efficient martial system, integrating the mind, body and spirit in balanced proportion. Goju is a close fighting style emphasising deep breathing, circula movements and powerful techniques. A traditional form of Karate, Goju Kai is practiced world-wide with its foundation and head of style based in Japan.

OUR CORE TEACHINGS FOCUS ON:
Self-Confidence
Our dojo environment offers a safe space for individuals to train amongst like minded people. Many see martial arts as a way to exercise individually, while in a group environment. Everyone learns and develops at their own pace. Through regular and consistent training, you can gain control of your own body movements, reaction / response behaviour and in turn confidence. The dojo community celebrates with you in your successes and supports and encourages through your learnings.
Self-Discipline
As you progress through your martial arts journey you will train more than just the body, to incorporate mind and spirit. This holistic view requires and develops self-discipline. Commencing with the hardest step of all... committing to regular training - your karate journey instils consistency and familiarity with body movements . As you advance, you will discover and expand your understanding of how to incorporate and command energy flows/alignment and mental focus into the projection and execution of even the most basic movements.
Self-Defence
Fundamental to any Martial Arts is the ability to use techniques to protect and defend. Our style focuses on circular movements to evade and re-direct attacks, which provides children, women and men the ability to apply effective technique (over brut strength) to defend. We provide guidance for dealing with grabs, arm locks and other unprovoked attacks to provide simple but effective methods to safely remove yourself from the situation. For those interested in sports / competitive kumite (fighting), our style has effective attack and defence techniques for close range, mid and long range techniques.
